A column canvassing current literary news including reports on the launch of ABR's Patrons Scheme, changes in the announcement protocols of the Miles Franklin Literary Award and the death of Randolph Stow.
A column reporting on the 2 June 2010 launch of ABR's Patrons Scheme. David Malouf spoke at the launch on the importance of magazines in the literary culture. The Patrons Scheme will fund 'selected articles in each issue of ABR and ... a new project, the ABR Patrons' Fellowships'. The Fellowships will take the form of sponsoring 'a substantial article, either a profile of a major literary figure or a discursive essay with literary/cultural themes'.
Laurie Hergenhan recalls a visit with Randolph Stow in East Bergholt, Sussex in 1975. Adding to his recollections of that day, Hergenhan records information about Stow's life in England, his literary works and his correspondence with Hergenhan.
Brian McFarlane suggests that 'we shouldn't be browbeaten by the likes of Nowra, who assumes that filmmakers can have no higher aspiration than to take on Hollywood at its own game. At the very least, a country's art forms might be supposed to have something to say about the culture from which they draw their being ... Being near or far from Hollywood is neither here nor there - certainly not here, anyway.' (p.50)
