BiographyHistory

'Brain McFarlane taught in schools in Victoria and England, ending this career with fifteen years at Trinity Grammar, Kew, Victoria. He won a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City, USA. He became an academic as a part-time tutor while still at Trinity, and he spent ten years at Monash University, where he taught literature, film, and film-and-literature, with emphasis on British cinema and literary adaptations on screen. He was Visiting Professor at the University of Hull, UK in 2007-2009.

'Now he is a writer and a film critic. In 2003 he was awarded the Centenary Medal for ‘services to the arts and literature’. He is has been an Honorary Associate Professor at Monash University, Australia. He serves on the editorial board of several film-related journals in the UK, the US and Australia, and also examines PhD theses and book proposals from those countries.'
