'Professor Schreuder has been Chair of the Australian Universities Quality Agency, Visiting Professor in History and Education in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, and Adjunct Professor at the Humanities Research Centre, the Australian National University. He was formerly the 16th Vice Chancellor of the University of Western Australia and 2nd Vice Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney. He was President of the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee (Council of Australia's University Presidents) during the Crossroads Review of higher education Australia, and served on the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council, as well as chairing a wide range of Australian Research Council committees and panels. In addition, he has been President of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, and a Director of the Business Higher Education Round Table. Professor Schreuder previously held positions as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University (1993-1994), Challis Professor of History at the University of Sydney (1980-1992), and Associate Director of the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian National University. He is a past President of both the Australian Historical Association and the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific. He was a Rhodes Scholar to Oxford, Kennedy Fellow at New College (Oxford) 1964-1970 and later became a Visiting Fellow at Oxford. A scholar of modern international history and author of many books, he has a special interest in colonial and post-colonial societies, as well as in modern educational policy where he writes widely on universities.
