— Review of The Tiniest House of Time Sreedhevi Iyer , 2020 single work novel

'Sreedhevi Iyer’s The Tiniest House of Time is a book for our time, examining as it does the profound silences that a family lives with, silences embedded in a history of displacement, and the uprooting from what was considered home. In tracking hidden and unspoken histories, of which there is little written record, the author has written something of a psychoanalytically focused and politically acute narrative, as she explores through her finely structured novel, an evocation of generational trauma across migratory continental space. With much sensitivity and intelligence, Iyer delineates the colonial legacy of race relations, and how this legacy weighs down on those societies still navigating them.' (Introduction)

1 5 y separately published work icon Navigable Ink Jennifer Mackenzie , Yarraville : Transit Lounge , 2020 18827279 2020 selected work poetry

'Indonesian writer and activist Pramoedya Ananta Toer spent most of his adult life in jail, imprisoned first by colonial powers and later by Indonesian governments. In 1993 Jennifer Mackenzie received a copy of Toer's manuscript Arus Balik and the author's blessing to translate it into English. This was at a time when the author's now celebrated work was banned in Indonesia and he was under house arrest in Jakarta.

'Jennifer Mackenzie's own Navigable Ink is a rare poetic exploration of Toer's tragic, visionary and ultimately triumphant life. With skill, knowledge and sensitivity Mackenzie captures the beauty of Indonesia and Toer's fight to preserve its integrity and essence. Throughout our world his concerns for the environment, gender equality, free speech, non-discrimination and freedom are now more crucial than ever.' (Publication summary)

— Review of A Little Book of Unspoken History Elif Sezen , 2018 selected work poetry

'In these times many of us from all corners of the globe have more than one place we call home. Concepts of nationality, attachment to place, a sudden annunciation of enlightened belonging or steadfast refusal of it can be dissociative, painful and conversely full of artistic promise. The very notion of home may be welcome or fraught with regret. It may involve mixed emotions or at worst, trauma.' (Introduction)

1 Jennifer Mackenzie Reviews Bella Li’s Argosy and Lost Lake Jennifer Mackenzie , 2018 single work review
— Appears in: Mascara Literary Review , June no. 22 2018;

'A publishing highlight of 2017 was the appearance of Bella Li’s Argosy, and this has been followed by the recent release of Lost Lake. By introducing an intriguing blend of collage, photography and sparely-written text, the poet has provoked, as well as enthralling us with her original poetics, a fresh way of looking back on some poetic traditions, particularly that of Surrealism. Although a number of responses present themselves for discussion, I shall focus on what is a dominant focus in both collections, that of the journey. With the theme of voyages or journeys reverberating through Argosy and Lost Lake, they reveal themselves as an imminence, in which all images and words surrender into an inevitable beauty.' (Introduction)
