The Rise of Ausia, Nury Vittachi , single work prose

Nury Vittachi documents the rise of a new form of literture, dubbed 'Ausia', in which Australian stories 'are presaging a cultural integration between the country and its neighbours'.

Vittachi identifies various categories: World Citizen Lit., Roots Lit., Home Lit. and Whole Earth Lit. He suggests that the 'growing number of novels with Australia-encounters-the-wider-world themes suggests the literary landscape is evolving'. Vittachi concludes by expressing the hope that the stalled Australia-Asia Literary Award will be re-instigated as it would 'further encourage a refocusing of Australia's creative energies to make it one of the creative hubs of the eastern side of the planet'.
