Ross Fitzgerald was educated at Melbourne High School and Monash University and holds an MA from Case Western Reserve University and a doctorate from the University of New South Wales. Fitzgerald is well known as a writer, broadcaster, historian and political commentator and has held positions as Professor of History and Politics at Griffith University and Chair of the Centenary of Federation Queensland (until March 2002).
Apart from his satirical novels and collections and compilations of short fiction, Fitzgerald has published extensively in the fields of biography, history and political analysis; a life-long supporter of the Collingwood Football Club, he also wrote The Footy Club, a best-selling book on the politics of Australian Rules Football and co-edited The Greatest Game: Writings on Australian Football.
