Stella Clarke holds a BA (Hons) in English and Italian, an MA in English Literature, and a PhD in English Literature, all awarded by the University of Warwick.
Beginning in 1999, she has written literary criticism for newspapers including the Weekend Australian, the Australian Literary Review, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age, the West Australian. She has also been a panellist for the Melbourne Writers Festival (2008) and has three times served as a judge for the Australian/Vogel Literary Award (2002, 2003, and 2004).
As an academic, Stella Clarke has taught English and Italian in the UK (including at the University of Warwick, the University of Leicester, and UWE Bristol) and in Australia (including at the University of New England and the University of Ballarat).
Her academic publications include a number of works on the law in the nineteenth-century British novel.
