Notes

  • One of a number of letters from readers which appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald following the publication of A. G. Stephens' article on Adam Lindsay Gordon's legendary horseback 'leap', supposedly made at the Blue Lake fence near Mount Gambier. Here Macdonald disputes what he claims are inaccuracies in both Stephens' article and the other readers' letters, gives his own version of events surrounding Gordon's 'leap', and also raises doubts on the 'leap' buck-jumper Lance Skuthorp claimed to have made in the same vicinity. Macdonald wrote a number of follow-up letters on this subject - those found to date appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on 10 January 1930, p. 7 ; 17 January 1930, p.9 ; 12 February 1930, p. 8.
