AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Here Stephens considers Adam Lindsay Gordon's legendary horseback 'leap', supposedly made at the Blue Lake fence near Mount Gambier, and attempts to separate fact from mythology.

Notes

  • Following the publication of this article, in the following weeks the Sydney Morning Herald published a number of letters from readers giving their opinion on where Gordon actually made the leap, etc. These included a somewhat terse exchange between Dick Macdonald (q.v.) and Lance Skuthorp (q.v.).
  • Stephens wrote a similar article on this subject which appeared in the Brisbane Courier on 22 February, 1930.
