BiographyHistory

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was an English author, mathematician, and photographer. He is best remembered, via his pseudonym Lewis Carroll, as the author of Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass. Dodgson's entry in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography argues that the Alice books 'earned him a place in the firmament of the great, for they are not only acts of imaginative genius but they also revolutionized writing for children'.
