BiographyHistory

An imprint of Schwartz Publishing Pty Ltd, Black Inc. specialises in literary non-fiction and fiction books and was established in Melbourne in 2000. It has since published some of Australia's more highly regarded writers and poets, including Alice Pung, Simon Leys, Anna Goldsworthy, A.J. Mackinnon, Les Murray, and Robert Adamson. Among the international authors to have had their works published with Black Inc. are Raj Patel and Steve Hely.

In addition to publishing the annual anthologies Best Australian Stories, Best Australian Poems, and Best Australian Essays (cancelled in March 2018, and replaced them with Best Summer Stories), Black Inc. oversees the publication of Black Inc. Agenda, the mass market/commercial imprint Nero, and the Schwartz Business (finance titles) and Schwartz City (art) imprints, as well as the political journal Quarterly Essay. In April 2018, Morry Schwartz announced a new venture, Australian Foreign Affairs.

All Schwartz Publishing Pty Ltd titles are distributed in Australia by Penguin.
