Schwartz Publishing was established by Morry Schwartz in 1980, following the demise of Outback Press. Among the earliest titles published were Amie Livingstone Stirling's Memories of an Australian Childhood, 1880-1900 (1980) and Blanche d'Alpuget's biography of Bob Hawke.
In 1987, Schwartz joined Bantam Books in forming the short-lived Bantam/Schwartz imprint (1987-1988). Some fifteen non-fiction titles were published by the venture. Another short-term joint-publishing venture, Schwartz and Wilkinson, was undertaken by Schwartz between 1988 and 1992, with the imprint specialising in non-fiction. In the mid-1990s, Schwartz also set up Bookman Press.
Arguably the most successful publishing venture for Morry Schwartz, however, has been Black Inc., an imprint that he set up under Schwartz Publishing in 2000.
