Notes

  • Charles Dibdin's ballad opera The Waterman is included in AustLit because it falls within the parameters of the Colonial Newspapers Project.
  • The Waterman is described as a ballad opera both by Allardyce Nicoll and in the advertisement for the Royal Victoria Theatre, Sydney, for the performance of the work on 17 November 1838. 'Tom Tug, (with the original song), Mrs Clarke' [Anne Clarke] is also recorded in the same advertisement.
