Valuable Books, Just Imported by James Tegg, single work advertisement

An advertisement for books for sale by James Tegg. The advertisement fills columns of the Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser and lists the works for sale in alphabetical order. Books include novels, 'Cooper, Miss Porter, Miss Austin [Jane Austen?], Goodwin, Mrs Shelley ; and some by Bulwer, Theodore Hook, Morier, James, and other celebrated Writers', poetry, extracts and essays, plays, biography, works for children and young people, dictionaries, spelling and grammar, songs, and non-fiction including history, theology, science and domestic science. Tegg also advertises his own publications in the list.

The 'Sydney General Trade List' published in the Gazette of 8 November 1838 (4) included ‘4 cases books, J. Tegg’ as imports on 31 October via the Marian Watson.

Royal Victoria Theatre : The Waterman &c., single work advertisement

An advertisement for a performance at the Royal Victoria Theatre, Sydney, on 17 November 1838 of the 'Ballad Opera, entitled the Waterman Tom Tug (with the original song), Mrs Clarke [Anne Clarke]' and '[Tyrone] Power's Drama, called Saint Patrick's Eve'.

To the Australian Public, single work advertisement

In November 1838 MacDonald published a notice 'To the Australian Public' in the advertising columns of Sydney newspapers. The notice appeals 'for succour and support' and ends with the postscript: 'My last publication, containing a History of my Life with a Prose Essay, entitled the Fate of a Genius, with four Original Songs, may be had at Mr. Tegg's, Bookseller, George-street, price 1s. 6d. I humbly request that each of the Editors of the Australian Newspapers will give the above article a place in their columns. Persons desirous of befriending me may send their donations, addressed to the Australian Office.'
