The story of the Chirrbookie is intended to educate the Raminyeri (Ramindjeri) people or other people of the Ngarrindjeri nation. Chirrbookie was the name of a person who belonged to the Ramindjeri people, he was greatly respected by his own and other clans. This man also taught the people that if they fulfilled the laws and customs they should, if they desired, continued to live on the earth. However, if death came to them by accident or in warfare, or by other means they would only have to wish and that wish would be granted. If the person was a law-breaker and a good man killed him and that same good man expressed a wish that the bad man became stone, then the bad would turn to stone.
