This competition was offered by 'Poetry' magazine, which was published by the Poetry Society of Australia. Contestants were required to enter three poems each and the winner's second and third poems were also highly commended by a panel headed by Professor Leonie Kramer. In 1963, it was a requirement that poems entered were unpublished and 'signed by a pseudonym while the writer's real name and address was to be enclosed in a sealed envelope, upon which the pseudonym is written.'
