Notes

  • English translation of first line: Mr Retro
  • The poem is about 'Mr Retro', seemingly the poet's alter ego, and his love of the work of classical authors such as Homer and Heraclitus. It ends with the image of him sailing with Odysseus on the 'Mare Nostrum' (an old Latin name for the Mediterranean Sea) in search of an island where he might 'lay his bones to rest'.
