Notes

  • Author's note: Mount Damavand is the highest peak in Iran located in the Alborz ranges overlooking the capital Tehran. On the way to Turkey we flew over Tehran and could easily see mount [sic] Damavand under the moonlight. This was the closest I had been to Iran in 11 years and emotions were strong. The poem relates the experience.
  • The poem contains a reference to the Iranian poet Mohammad Taghi Bahar.
