[Untitled], single work column

'We are in receipt of an interesting work on Federation by E. W. Cole. The author goes one better than his contemporaries, and advocates the federation of the world. Says Mr Cole:- "The human race, after many ages of fitful, painful, and weary struggling, is now fast ripening to a united, beautiful, and magestic [sic] flower, the crowning blossom of the earth." Mr Cole expects his delightful dream to be realised before the year 2000, and evidently expects to live to see it. We are sure we hope he will, but the matter appears somewhat doubtful. It is with pain we record the fact that this benefactor of his species has been called a shoddy enthusiast by carping critics, and his pet theory dubbed Eutopian [sic], Chimerical, Impossible, &c. But, courage Mr Cole, prophets were always without profit in their own country.'
