AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This book describes from an Australian perspective the Battle of the Sunda Strait, fought 28 February 1942, in which the Australian light cruiser, Perth, and the American heavy cruiser, Houston, were sunk by Japanese naval forces.

'Many of the men in Perth were killed in the action, and others perished in the sea. Many of those who reached the coast of Java died later as prisoners of war. Of a ship's company of 682, only 229 lived to return to Australia.' (Dust jacket blurb, December 1953 reprint).
