Notes

  • Editor's note: Betty Jeffrey (1908-2000) was an Australian Army Nursing Service nurse in Malacca, shipped out to Singapore when Malaya fell to the Japanese in January 1942. She was evacuated a second time on 12 February 1942 on the hastily requisitioned Vyner Brooke, which was sunk by Japanese aircraft on 14 February, the day before the Allied surrender of Singapore. She spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of the Japanese.
