Notes

  • In an editorial The New Year , The Morning Chronicle (3 January): 2, the author wishes the Chronicle's readers 'many-very many, and very happy returns of the renovated year'. The author then discusses the economic depression in Sydney, New South Wales, suggesting reasons and solutions.

    The editorial was the subject of a brief column The Renovated Year published in the Sydney Morning Herald (4 January 1844): 2. The Morning Chronicle's author replied in a column March of Intellect : The 'Herald' Again (6 January 1844): 2 to which the Sydney Morning Herald responded by publishing this poem by 'Chronos'.
