AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A heated condemnation of the jury's decision in finding the former editor of The Cairns Chronicle, Mr E. Draper, not guilty of libel against the Police Magistrate, Mr Chester. The writer states the verdict confirms the belief that it is impossible to secure a conviction for libel in North Queensland. He further suggests people who believe they have been libelled are better off paying the fine for physically assaulting their libeller than trying to secure justice through the courts.
