Correspondence, C. J. Royle , single work correspondence
The correspondent refers to a case against the editor of the Cairns Chronicle, E. C. Draper, and the threats allegedly made by the paper to obtain advertising for a land sale. The letter quotes a telegram he received from the proprietor, W. D. Hobson, stating 'New Cairns not being advertised in Chronicle; recommend you to take this hint immediately. (Signed) W. D. Henry M. Chester v. E. C. M. Draper, for criminal libel. Trial to be held in Townsville on 27 April, 1887. The prisoner was released on £50 bail and two sureties of £25 each. W. D. Hobson was fined twenty shillings for non-attendance as a witness.
