Notes

  • Although Elizabeth Webby's Early Australian Poetry: An Annotated Bibliography of Original Poems Published in Australian Newspapers, Magazines and Almanacks Before 1850 (1982) links this poem to Charles P. N. Wilton's 'The Land of the South', it contains references to Henry Wrensford's 'A Good Joke for the Whole of the Year 1831: To His Excellency the Governor, Captain-General'. This latter poem is not included in Webby's bibliography.
  • Air: 'Oh Kathleen, why do you slight me?'.
