'Hopes that 1831 will see the last of Darling and his crew.' (Webby)

Notes

  • Written in response to Henry Wrensford's 'A Good Joke for the Whole of the Year 1831: To His Excellency the Governor, Captain-General'. 'Thistle' plays on Wrensford's surname in the poem's final lines, declaring that Wrensford's 'praise is worse than satire's gall / and whom the bard would sorely maul / could eagles stoop to wrens!'.
