Here Kendall writes:
'Sir - Several gentlemen wishing to obtain copies of the subjoined beautiful poem, have repeatedly requested me to publish it in one of the Sydney papers, and to that end I now send it to you.
It is copied from an old Atlas that I have had for a long time in my possession; and I believe that, at the time of its first appearance, it commanded some attention, and was deservedly much admired. Though written prematurely then, the lines are mournfully pertinent now.
Henry Kendall, Kingston, Newtown.'
