  • This was a premature lament set to music, for Lynd's friend Ludwig Leichhardt, who was presumed to have died. On 25 March 1846, Leichhardt and members of his expedition returned to Sydney.
  • Author's note: Sydney Barracks, July 2, 1845.
  • Appeared in the Empire in September 1861 with an accompanying letter from Henry Kendall (q.v.). Kendall had evidently copied the poem from an old copy of the Atlas and forwarded it to the Empire for publication.
