AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Drawing on the content of David Copperfield, Arthur H. Adams discusses the fictional characters (Mr Micawber and his family, Daniel Peggotty and Little Em'ly) who narratively immigrate to Australia in the course of the novel. Adams also notes how Dickens, while never having been to Australia, 'managed to present such an accurate picture of life in the early days' of settlement.
