BiographyHistory

An accomplished painter, cartoonist, and art teacher, Fred Leist was appointed an official war artist with the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War. According to the Australian Dictionary of Biography, Leist was 'the first to portray the Australian girl as a definite type'.
