Notes

  • Author's note: NB; Charles Yelverton (C.Y) O’Connor was the chief engineer in Western Australia from 1891 to his death in 1902. O’ Connor built Fremantle Harbour and the Perth to Kalgoorlie pipeline under heavy criticism from the press and Opposition party. In 1902 he rode his horse into the sea at South Fremantle and ended his own life with is revolver. The beach where he died is named after him, and there is a statue of a figure on a horse installed some twenty metres off the beach.
