Nandi Chinna holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts (Creative Arts), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Creative Arts), all from Edith Cowan University. Her MA resulted in the poetry collection How to Measure Land and her PhD in the poetic work Swamp (as well as accompanying critical works for both.
Chinna has been a member of the Fremantle based Out of the Asylum writers' group. She has worked as a research consultant for variety of land conservation projects in and around Perth, Western Australia.
In 2014, her poem 'Cut and Paste Lake' won the Tom Collins Poetry Prize. Her poems have been widely anthologised and published in numerous journals, as well as her standalone collections.
