AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The teachings I reveal in this book are the living treasures of my life. The traditional knowledge I talk about includes Creation Dreaming, bush lore, foods and healing, laws and punishment, spirituality and relationship to the land. These are some of the things taught to me by my teachers, my masters. And I will never forget them. They made me look at the Mother with ancient eyes. Not mine. But with ancient eyes and now it is my turn to pass on what I know.' Source: My People's Dreaming: An Aboriginal Elder Speaks on Life, Land, Spirit and Forgiveness (2009)

Notes

  • Publisher's Note: There are many variations on the spelling of words within different Aboriginal languages. We have used the spellings of Aboriginal place names and spirits that best assist with correct pronunciation of these names. The term 'Uncle' is used to describe a man of wisdom and we have capitalised the 'Uncle' to show our respect for the role that an 'Uncle' has in his community.
  • Publisher's Note: Both the words 'lore' and 'law' are used throughout this book and have subtle differences in meaning. The term lore is used to suggest a set of customary practices, ways of living, storytelling and traditions. The word law refers to a body of rules that can be enforced. With Yuin lore there are laws that can be enforced.
