AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Minnie George and I recorded this at Mt. Catt in February 1989 and I guess that she was already in her 70s. Unfortunately she did not live much longer and I could not read it back to her. She took great pleasure in telling her story in Kriol in a high and melodious voice with much expreesive elaboration. In translating I have tried to retain the flavour of Minnie's expression'. At the request of the authors they were translated in standard English. Bulman is on the border of Arnhem Land and Mainoru cattle station, which was the home and workplace of many Rembarrnga people until an American company acquired the lease in 1968. The subsequent events are told in these stories. The Gulin Gulin community at Bulman has connections with Ngukurr, Barunga and Maningrida'. (Source: Publisher's note)
