'This was tape recorded at Beswick on the 19th February, 1989. Willy was a man of considerable tribal significance, and was a powerful leader in the contemporary era. He had been a member of the National Aboriginal Consultative Committee in the 1980's. His sudden death from a heart attack in 1991 was a terrible shock both to his close family and to an extensive network of kin'. (Source: Publisher's note)

At the request of the authors they were translated in standard English. Bulman is on the border of Arnhem Land and Mainoru cattle station, which was the home and workplace of many Rembarrnga people until an American company acquired the lease in 1968. The subsequent events are told in these stories. The Gulin Gulin community at Bulman has connections with Ngukurr, Barunga and Maningrida'. (Source: Publisher's note)
