AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A strange, long poem that describes in poetic language many features of the Australian landscape, fauna and flora, its people and particular words. Each section is prefaced with the words: 'I see and sing'.

Notes

  • Dedication: To the venerable Dr George Bennett, F.L.S., F.Z.S., etc., of Sydney, New South Wales: to whom the world is indebted for much that is known of Australia; and to whom the world bows in grateful recognition.
  • A notes section at end of book reproduces the poem 'Australia' by Richard Whately.
