AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'In the Nyitting time the land was flat and there was no KFC or Happy meals. The land slept deeply, waiting for the alarm to go off, waiting to be awakened. This was a different time, this Nyitting time, 'cause animals ruled and shook the earth alive. So come back, way back to discover the Nyitting time.' - Yirra Yaakin

Notes

  • 'In the Nyitting Time' translates to 'In the cold time' and is the traditional way Noongars used to start their stories - as opposed to 'nce upon a time'.

Yirra Yaakin's new family theatre show introduces stories inspired by Traditional Noongar Dreaming based on waterways and native animals found in Noongar Country.

Production Details

  • Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre toured this family show in primary schools for four weeks in the the Pilbara and Kimberley region, May 2007. Director: Derek Nannup.
