Samantha Cook's family comes from an area near Broome. Cook has worked for Magabala Books for over five years, as their designer. In 1999, Cook 'assumed a position on the ArtsWA Aboriginal funding assessment panel' (Tweedie, P., [Indigenous Australia: Standing Strong], Simon & Schuster, 2001, p. 30).
Initially appointed as the company's Marketing Manager, Sam Cook was Executive Producer of Australia's leading Aboriginal theatre company - Yirra Yaakin,from 2003, resigning in March 2009.
She has been instrumental in the creation of an international Indigenous alliance called Honouring Theatre, a tri-nation initiative with sister companies Taki Rua (NZ) and Native Earth (Canada) working together to bring indigenous theatre to the world.
In 2011, Sam joined Tracker as a regular with her KISSmyBLAKarts column.
