  • Deschamps's poem was published in French in the Tasmanian Mail's Literary Symposium column of 15 July 1899 (page 23)
  • The Editor announces that M. Hookey's translation of this poem wins the 'second tourney' of the second 'Literary Symposium', and provides the following comments on her work:'Translation faithful; rhythm sound; rhymes good. "Vanished" rather weak but permissible. Just a trifle too much paraphrase, perhaps. But very good.'
