Notes

  • Appears in a special section of The Tasmanian Mail titled 'Our Literary Symposium'. The Editor explains that the symposium 'is intended to afford French scholars and students in all parts of the colony intelligent work for the winter evenings' by providing 'a Sonnet or other Poetical Passage ... from a French author of repute' for them to translate.
  • Editor's note: This capital translation ..., sent in as an impromptu, but "not for competition," is published for general information.
  • The original poem 'L'Armour', of which 'True Love' is a translation, was published in The Tasmanian Mail of 1 July 1899 (p. 6)
