Originally published in 1882, The Cairns Daily Times resumed publication in 1899 but was poorly financed and lost its editor 3 weeks before the first issue appeared. When the replacement editor, Frederick Wegg Horne was found guilty of assaulting a policeman, the paper ceased publication again, having lasted only 19 weeks.
