Six-year-old Japanese boy Yume is visiting Australia with his parents. While his parents prepare a barbecue lunch, Yume wanders off towards the billabong. He soon encounters a fairy wren, who takes Yume to meet a range of Australian native animals, including wallabies, an echidna, and a bandicoot. He also meets an Aboriginal boy named Googie Myer. Googie and the animals have a surprise in store for Yume.
