Relates the European settlement of Gracemere and the establishment of Rockhampton from the arrival of the first settlers in 1853 to the proclamation of Rockhampton as a town in 1857.
Describes the methods used by scrub riders to locate and capture wild cattle during the 1870s. A second section, entitled 'Brumbies' describes brumby running.
Tells of a number of murders of whites by Aboriginal people, which he says were often retaliation for acts committed by whites against Aborigines. Also gives brief details of local bushrangers.
