J. Grant Pattison is the descendant of one of Rockhampton's earliest families, who settled in the district in 1865. Pattison published his first articles in the Australian and Grazing Farmers' Gazette while working on a cattle property in Bowen. He went on to publish in The Australasian, The Courier-Mail and The Queenslander. His book, 'Battler' Tales of Early Rockhampton , is a collection of stories about Rockhampton that date from the first European settlers. The articles were originally published in The Daily Record, Artesian and The Evening News.
