Episode two (27 June 1961)
Film idol Gordon Cheviot has been followed by an enquiry agent named Boone, presumably employed by Arnold Hedges, the accountant to Adrian Charles's film company. Cheviot calls on Arnold Hedges, who has just received a beating over an unpaid gambling debt. Hedges insists that he has never even heard of Boone. The following morning Hedges' daily help finds evidence of murder. (Radio Times, 22 June 1961, p.29.)
Episode three (4 July 1961)
Gordon Cheviot is suspected of the murder of Arnold Hedges, whose body has mysteriously disappeared. Cheviot is starring in a high-budget production for Adrian Charles's film company. In order to protect his investment, Adrian Charles asks Fergus Ryder, an assistant director, to try to find Hedges's killer and sends Cheviot into hiding. Then Fergus Ryder finds Hedges's body–in the boot of Cheviot's car. (Radio Times, 29 June 1961, p.31.)
Episode four (11 July 1961)
Gordon Cheviot is suspected of the murder of Arnold Hedges. Fergus Ryder, who doesn't believe Cheviot is guilty, is trying to find the real murderer, when he discovers Hedges' body in the boot of Cheviot's car. Ryder sees Joe Denzel, who was owed a great deal of money by Hedges and accuses him of being involved in Hedges' murder. Later that evening, Denzel is visited by Arthur Boone, a private detective, who not only accuses Denzel of being involved but also tries to blackmail him. Denzel agrees to meet Boone later with the money. When Boone gets to the rendezvous he is shot dead. (Radio Times, 6 July 1961, p.29.)
Episode five (18 July 1961)
Arthur Boone, a private detective, is found shot dead and a direct link is established between him, Hedges, and Cheviot. The police now suspect Cheviot of killing both Hedges and Boone. Ryder continues to look for some other suspect. Denzel sends for Ryder and tries to bribe him to give up his search. Ryder throws the money in his face. Ryder decides to break into Boone's office to try to find some clue the police might have missed. As he is leaving the office, four of Denzel's thugs are waiting for him. Episode six (25 July 1961)
Following up the clue he found In Boone's office, Ryder finds proof that Hedges had paid Boone to follow Cheviot. Confronted with this, Cheviot admits he has been lying and tells Ryder about some love letters written to him by Hedges's wife, and still in existence, which would give the police an undeniable reason for arresting Cheviot on a charge of murdering Hedges. Ryder and his fiancée, Gillian, go to Cheviot's house to collect the letters and Ryder discovers that Gillian and Cheviot have had an affair. (Radio Times, 20 July 1961, p.29.)
