The screenplay for this television series is based on several versions of Lindsay Hardy's original short story 'Morning-After Murder.' A crime thriller set in Hollywood, the story was first published in the US Cosmopolitan magazine in 1955. Hardy soon afterwards adapted it into a radio serial called A Stranger in Paradise.
Despite the names, there does not seem to be a correlation between this work and the 1956 radio serial by the same author, also called Walk a Crooked Mile, produced in Australia by Grace Gibson Productions.
The BBC television series does not share any relationship with the 1956 Harry Dearth Playhouse radio play Walk a Crooked Mile, which is based on the 1948 Columbia Pictures film of the same name.
