AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Light and satirical in tone, the hero of the story is a penniless young writer who becomes involved with a departed spirit which communicates using telepathy. Graham Stone writes that nothing much seems to happen in the narrative, while the mystery of the telepathic communication barely explained. He further notes that no scientific content is included, nor is any conclusion reached (Notes, 103).

Notes

  • Preliminary quotation: "Listen! We are in telepathic communication."

  • Title page quotation: The silent thought - by will impelled / Will travel far - strange thoughts among / Voiceless - until, in embrace held / By kindred though, it finds a tongue.

  • Dedication: Dedicated to the friend whose unwearied researches in medical science led to the discovery here recorded and in telepathic collaboration with whom the story was written.
