Miss Merritt has spent her life doing things for other people. But when she falls ill no one comes to help her and she decides she will never do anything for anyone else again. However, change is not as easy as she thought it would be.
Magarey discusses some of the books owned by an American collector, Dr. A. S. Rosenbach, which were lent to the New York Public Library for an exhibition. The books date back to the seventeenth century and Magarey provides several extracts.
