Notes

  • The collection of broadside ballads, chiefly from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, of Sir Frederic Madden (1801-1873), a noted palaeographer and librarian at the British Museum, was bequeathed to the University of Cambridge. The collection has since been microfilmed. The collection includes many songs of Australian interest, particularly ballads on the theme of convict transportation.
