AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This thesis examines contemporary authorship and publishing in Australia, concentrating on the experience of both the freelance and academic author. The thesis focuses on Commonwealth government policy and funding, the author/publisher relationship, the literary marketplace, developments in electronic publishing, and includes a case-study of UQP. A series of thirty-five semi-structured interviews provided a direct source of information drawn from the personal experience of selected authors, publishers and editors.
